Cartographic speck is a term used to describe small islands, islets, and cays. An ISLET is a small island, typically less than 1 hectare in area, while an ISLE is a larger island, usually greater than 1 hectare in area. A CAY is a low-lying island, typically formed from coral or sand. All three of these terms are used to describe small islands, with islets being the smallest, isles being larger, and cays being the largest.
