George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. He is best known for his play Candida, which was first performed in 1895. The play is a comedy about a woman who must choose between her husband and a young poet who has come to stay with them. Shaw's work is considered to be among the greatest of the 20th century and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925.
