Julius CAESAR was a famous Roman statesman and military leader who lived from 100 BC to 44 BC. He is best known for his role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He was born Gaius Julius CAESAR and was given the title of 'CAESAR' by the Roman SENATE. He was known for wearing a TOGA, a garment worn by Roman citizens. He was assassinated on the Ides of March by Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus. He is remembered for his many accomplishments, including his reforms to the Roman calendar and his conquest of Gaul. He is also remembered for his famous quote, 'Veni, vidi, vici, ' which translates to 'I came, I saw, I conquered.'
