Elaine Chao is the current United States Secretary of Labor, appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001. She is the first Asian American woman to be appointed to a President's Cabinet in American history. Chao has held various positions in both the public and private sectors, including Deputy Secretary of Transportation under President George H.W. Bush and Director of the Peace Corps under President George W. Bush. She is also the founder of the Elaine Chao Family Foundation, which provides scholarships to students of Asian descent.
