The Burmese Prime Minister is currently Aung San Suu Kyi, who has held the position since 2016. She is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD). Prior to her, the Prime Minister was Thein Sein, who served from 2011 to 2016. He was the first president of Burma to be elected in a free election in over 50 years. Before him, the Prime Minister was U Nu, who served from 1948 to 1958. He was the first Prime Minister of independent Burma and was a leader of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League.
