The term British Rule in Colonial India is often referred to as the RAJ, which is a three-letter word. The British RAJ was the period of British rule on the Indian subcontinent between 1858 and 1947. During this time, the British East India Company had control over much of the region, and the British Crown had ultimate authority over the Indian subcontinent. The British RAJ was marked by a number of reforms, including the introduction of English as the official language, the establishment of a modern legal system, and the development of infrastructure.
