The British Museum's Elgin Marbles are a collection of classical Greek marble sculptures, inscriptions and architectural pieces that were originally part of the Parthenon in Athens. They were acquired by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, between 1801 and 1812 and brought to Britain. The collection is now housed in the British Museum and is one of the most famous and controversial collections of antiquities in the world.
