Bess's Love is a character from the play PORGY by DuBose Heyward. PORGY is a disabled African-American beggar living in the slums of Charleston, South Carolina, and Bess's Love is his romantic interest. She is a woman of ill repute who is trying to escape her abusive relationship with Crown, a violent criminal. Despite her troubled past, Bess's Love finds solace in PORGY's unconditional love and eventually leaves Crown for him.
