He was best known for his big band, which he led from 1938 until his death in 2001. He was also a popular recording artist, having released over 100 albums during his career. Brown's music was featured in many films, including Anchors Aweigh and The Fabulous Dorseys. He was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985.
