An emigre is someone who has left their home country in order to settle in another. This could be for a variety of reasons, such as political or economic instability, or to seek asylum. An asylum seeker is someone who has fled their home country due to persecution, conflict, or violence and is seeking protection from another country. They may be an emigre, but not all emigres are asylum seekers.
