Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles. He is most famously known for becoming the first African American man to win the singles title at the US Open in 1968. He was also the first African American to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985. Ashe was a leader in the civil rights movement and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1993.
