Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles. He is most famous for being the first African American to win the men's singles title at the US Open in 1968. He was also the first African American to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985. Ashe was a humanitarian and social activist, and he founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.
