Peggy Guggenheim was an American art collector and socialite who was instrumental in the development of modern art in the 20th century. She was a member of the wealthy Guggenheim family and used her wealth to purchase and promote avant-garde art. She was also a major patron of the Surrealist movement, and her collection included works by many of the most influential artists of the time, including Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, and Jackson Pollock. Her collection is now housed in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy.
