The Frogs is a comedy by the ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes. It was first performed in 405 BC and is one of the few surviving plays from the period. The play follows Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry, as he descends into Hades to bring back the poet Euripides. Along the way, he encounters the frogs of the title, who are trying to decide which of two gods should rule over them. Wasps is another comedy by Aristophanes, first performed in 422 BC. It follows an Athenian juryman who is so fed up with the legal system that he decides to take justice into his own hands. The play satirizes Athenian society and its legal system, and features a chorus of wasps who represent the citizens of Athens.
