Aristide is a Haitian politician who served as the President of Haiti from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2004. He was born in Port-Salut, Haiti in 1953 and is a member of the Lavalas political party. His surname is also spelled 'Aristide' or 'Aristid'. He is known for his advocacy of democracy and human rights in Haiti. He is also known for his involvement in the Maillol movement, a popular uprising against the Duvalier dictatorship in the 1980s.
