The Apennines are a mountain RANGE located in southern Europe, stretching from the north of Italy to the south of the country. The RANGE is divided into three sections: the Umbrian Apennines, which run through the region of Umbria; the Ligurian Apennines, which run through the region of Genoa; and the Umbrian-Marchean Apennines, which run through the regions of Assisi and Monte. The Apennines are the longest mountain RANGE in Italy, and form part of the backbone of the Italian peninsula.
