The ESPY is an annual athletic award presented by the American broadcast television network ESPN to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony. The awards were first presented in 1993 and have been given out every year since then. The name ESPY is derived from the initials of the network's slogan, 'Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly'.
