The Anglo-BOER War was a conflict between the British Empire and the two independent BOER republics, the South African Republic and the Orange Free State. It began in 1899 and lasted until 1902, resulting in a British victory. The war was fought mainly over the control of the gold and diamond mines in the Transvaal region. The Boers were outnumbered and outgunned by the British forces, but they put up a strong resistance. The war resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, including civilians, and the displacement of many more.
