Nineveh was an ancient city located on the banks of the Tigris River in what is now modern day Iraq. It was one of the most important cities in the ancient world and was the capital of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. It was founded around 6000 BC and was destroyed in 612 BC by a coalition of Babylonians, Medes, and Scythians. Nineveh was known for its impressive architecture, including the famous Ishtar Gate, and was home to many temples and palaces.
