Ionia was an ancient Anatolian region located in present-day Turkey. It was a coastal region on the western coast of Anatolia, and was known for its many cities and colonies. It was home to the Ionian Greeks, who were known for their contributions to philosophy, literature, and science. Ionia was also an important trading center, and was a major hub for trade between the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
