An endangered species is a species that is at risk of becoming extinct due to human activities, natural events, or a combination of both. Two examples of endangered species are the CHEETAH and the manatee. The CHEETAH is a large cat native to Africa and parts of the Middle East. It is the fastest land animal in the world, capable of reaching speeds of up to 75 mph. The manatee is a large aquatic mammal found in shallow coastal areas of the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and the eastern coast of Florida. It is an endangered species due to habitat destruction, boat collisions, and fishing gear entanglement.
