American Saint is a term used to refer to two Catholic saints who were born in the United States. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (5 letters) was born in New York in 1774 and was the first native-born American to be canonized by the Catholic Church. She founded the Sisters of Charity, the first religious order in the United States. Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (7 letters) was born in Italy in 1850 and immigrated to the United States in 1889. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and was canonized in 1946. Both of these saints are recognized for their charitable works and are venerated as American Saints.
