The American Primate is an ORANGUTAN, which is a species of great ape native to Indonesia and Malaysia. Orangutans are the only exclusively Asian living genus of extant great apes. They are among the most intelligent primates and use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage. They have been extensively studied for their learning abilities. They are also the only arboreal mammals to display culture.
