American Naturalist John Muir was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, glaciologist, and early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States. He is best known for his work in Yosemite National Park and his writings that helped to preserve the area. Muir was also an influential figure in the creation of the National Park System. He was a founder of the Sierra Club and served as its first president.
