Robert Altman was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his films MASH (1970), Nashville (1975), The Player (1992), and Gosford Park (2001). Altman was a five-time nominee for the Academy Award for Best Director and won it once for his film, The Player. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his television movie, Tanner '88. Altman was a major influence on the New Hollywood era of filmmaking in the 1970s and 1980s.
