The Alamoogordo Experiment was a series of tests conducted by the United States military in 1945. The tests were conducted at the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range in Otero County, New Mexico. The experiment was part of the Manhattan Project, which was the code name for the development of the atomic bomb. The ATEST was the code name for the test of the first atomic bomb, which was detonated on July 16, 1945.
