Agamemnon was the King of Mycenae, a city-state in ancient Greece. He was the son of Atreus and Aerope, and the brother of Menelaus. His children included Orestes, Electra, Iphigenia, and possibly Helen. Agamemnon is best known for his role in the Trojan War, which is described in Homer's ILIAD. He was also responsible for the sacrifice of Iphigenia at Aulis, a port in Greece, in order to appease the gods and allow the Greek fleet to sail to Troy. Agamemnon was killed by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus upon his return to Argos.
