Aeschylus was an ancient Greek playwright who is widely regarded as the father of tragedy. He is best known for his TRILOGY, the Oresteia, which consists of three plays: Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers, and The Eumenides. The TRILOGY is set in the city of Thebes and follows the story of Orestes, the son of Agamemnon. Aeschylus also wrote SEVEN Against Thebes, a play about the siege of Thebes by the SEVEN Argive champions. Aeschylus is thus remembered as the Father of Tragedy.
