Aeneas' love was DIDO, a Phoenician princess who was the founder and first queen of Carthage. DIDO was the daughter of King Belus II of Tyre and sister of Pygmalion, the king of Tyre. Aeneas was a Trojan prince who fell in love with DIDO after he was shipwrecked on the coast of North Africa. The two shared a passionate love affair until Aeneas was forced to leave her in order to fulfill his destiny of founding Rome.
