Adrienne RICH was an American poet, essayist, and feminist. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1929 and was known for her passionate commitment to social justice and her poetry that explored the intersection of gender, race, and class. RICH was awarded the National Book Award in 1974 for her collection of poems Diving into the Wreck. She was also a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize. RICH's first husband was Alfred Conrad, and her second husband was Harvard economist Alfred Haskell Conrad. Her daughter, Adrienne Barbeau, is an actress who has appeared in films such as The Fog and Escape from New York. Her granddaughter, Corri, is an actress and singer.
