An ad-lib performance is an improvisational act in which the performer speaks or acts spontaneously without preparation. It is often used in comedy and theater, but can also be used in other forms of entertainment. The term 'ad-lib' comes from the Latin phrase 'ad libitum, ' meaning 'at one's pleasure.' Improv, or improvisation, is the art of creating something on the spot without any prior planning.
