Ida Lupino was an English-American actress, director, and screenwriter. She is best known for her roles in films such as High Sierra, The Hard Way, and Not Wanted. She was the first woman to direct a film noir, The Hitch-Hiker, and the first woman to direct episodes of television series such as The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Fugitive. Lupino was also a successful stage actress, appearing in plays such as The Taming of the Shrew and The Sea Gull. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1949 film Not Wanted.
