Claude Rains was an English actor who is best known for his roles in classic films such as The Invisible Man, Casablanca, and Lawrence of Arabia. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Rains was also a successful stage actor, appearing in productions of Shakespeare's plays and other works. He was active in the film industry from the 1930s until his death in 1967.
