Actor Lew AYRES was an American actor who was best known for his role in the 1930s film All Quiet on the Western Front. He was also a conscientious objector during World War II and was later awarded the French Legion of Honor for his work in the war. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in Johnny Belinda. He was also known for his roles in The Dark Angel, Holiday, and The Story of Dr. Wassell.
