Medgar Evers was an American civil rights activist who worked to end segregation and racial discrimination in the United States. He was assassinated in 1963, but his legacy lives on. He was the first field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi and was instrumental in organizing boycotts and protests against segregation. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1989 for his activism.
