Amelia Bloomer was an American social activist and women's rights advocate in the mid-1800s. She is best known for her work in promoting women's dress reform, which included advocating for more comfortable clothing than the traditional corset and hoop skirt. She also wrote and published a newspaper called The Lily, which was devoted to women's rights issues. Bloomer was an important figure in the early women's suffrage movement and was a close friend of Susan B. Anthony.
