The Acropolis is an ancient CITADEL located in ATHENS, Greece. It is a fortified STRONGHOLD that was built by the Athenians in the 5th century BC and dedicated to the goddess ATHENA. The Acropolis is home to many RUINS, including the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to ATHENA, and the STOA, a PORTICO with columns. Other structures include the Agora, a public square, and the Propylaea, a monumental gateway. Yanni, a Greek composer, wrote a song about the Acropolis. People who visit the Acropolis can also see the remains of fortifications, such as walls and towers, as well as ancient tunics.
