Gamal Abdel Nasser was an Egyptian politician who served as the second President of Egypt from 1956 until his death in 1970. He was a major figure in the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy and the subsequent establishment of a republic. He was also instrumental in the formation of the United Arab Republic, a short-lived union with Syria. During his presidency, he launched a series of economic and social reforms, including the nationalization of industry and land reform. He also led the Arab world in the Six-Day War against Israel in 1967.
