Ava DuVernay is an American filmmaker and director who directed the 2018 film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's novel A Wrinkle in Time. She is the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director and the first black female director to have a film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. She has also directed several other films, including Selma, 13th, and When They See Us.
