A PILGRIMAGE is a journey to a sacred place, often undertaken for religious reasons. Hegira is an Arabic term for a journey, usually referring to the flight of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. A SHRINE is a holy or sacred place, which is dedicated to a specific deity, ancestor, hero, martyr, saint, or similar figure of awe and respect. Finally, a TOUR is a journey or trip, usually for pleasure, during which several different places are visited. All of these terms can be used to describe a journey to a sacred place.
