The term 747 ALTERNATIVE refers to two different types of aircraft: the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar and the Concorde SST. The Tristar is a wide-body, three-engine jet airliner manufactured by Lockheed Corporation from 1968 to 1984. It was the third wide-body airliner to enter commercial operations, after the Boeing 747 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. The Concorde SST (supersonic transport) was a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner, a joint development between the British Aircraft Corporation and Aerospatiale of France. It was the first supersonic passenger airliner to enter service, operating from 1976 to 2003.
