The 34th President of the United States was Dwight D. EISENHOWER, commonly known as Ike. He was a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. After the war, he served as the first Supreme Commander of NATO. He was elected President in 1952 and served two terms until 1961. During his presidency, he oversaw the end of the Korean War, the desegregation of public schools, and the launch of the Interstate Highway System.
