The 27th President of the United States was William Howard Taft, who served from 1909 to 1913. He was a Republican and the only president to also serve as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Taft was known for his foreign policy initiatives, including the Dollar Diplomacy, which sought to increase American influence in Latin America. He was also responsible for the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment, which established the federal income tax.
