Obama was recognized for his 'extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples'. He was the first African American to be elected President of the United States and during his presidency he worked to promote nuclear non-proliferation, reduce the number of nuclear weapons, and combat climate change.
