The 1999 combatants were the Serbs, a South Slavic ethnic group that is predominantly located in Serbia and Montenegro. They were involved in the Kosovo War, which was fought between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo Albanian rebel group known as the Kosovo Liberation Army. The war lasted from March 1998 to June 1999 and resulted in the withdrawal of Yugoslav forces from Kosovo.
