The 1996 candidate was Bob DOLE, a Republican from Kansas. He was the Senate Majority Leader from 1985 to 1996 and was the Republican nominee for President of the United States in the 1996 election. DOLE ran against incumbent President Bill Clinton and lost in a landslide. DOLE's running mate was Jack Kemp, a former Congressman from New York. DOLE had previously run for President in 1988, but lost the nomination to George H. W. Bush.
