The 1993 Nobel Peace Prize was shared by Nelson MANDELA and Frederik Willem de Klerk. MANDELA was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. De Klerk was the seventh and last State President of apartheid-era South Africa from 1989 to 1994. The two men were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for their efforts to peacefully end the apartheid regime in South Africa.
