The 1970 Sportsman of the Year was Bobby Orr, a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played for the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest hockey players of all time. He won the Norris Trophy eight times as the NHL's best defenseman and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979. He was awarded the Sportsman of the Year award in 1970 for his outstanding performance on the ice.
