The 1969 UPSTARTS were the New York Mets, a professional baseball team based in Queens, New York. The Mets were formed in 1962 as part of the National League's expansion from ten teams to twelve. In 1969, the Mets had their first winning season and made it all the way to the World Series, where they defeated the Baltimore Orioles to become the World Champions. The 1969 UPSTARTS were the first team in baseball history to win the World Series after having a losing record the previous year. This was an incredible feat for the Mets and cemented their place in baseball history.
