In 1926, Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. She was accompanied by a team of six men in two boats, and her swim took 14 hours and 34 minutes. The team included a doctor, William SCAB, who monitored her health during the swim. In 2000, a HOVERCRAFT was used to cross the Channel in just over an hour. The first aircraft to cross the Channel was a Bleriot XI flown by Louis Bleriot in 1909.
